Flora {Senior Photography | Twin Cities, Minneapolis St. Paul, MN}

It was -6* outside on the day of this senior portrait session.  That's not good for girls, violas, or old ladies with fancy cameras.  But do you know what IS good - great, in fact?  Hanging out with this girl, right here.  In addition to being amazingly lovely, she is talented, bright, classy and sweet.  When she brought out her viola I just knew I would love photographing her, as well as talking to her.  And I did!  We had the best time talking "shop:" solo viola repertoire, string quartets, people we have in common... the usual.  She and her parents are wonderful people, and kindred spirits.  I am so happy they found me, and very honored and thrilled to have done these for them.

We decided to stay indoors and get lots of variety in the studio, instead of freezing our fingers and noses off.  And I love how these turned out!

A New Baby! {Baby, Child and Family Photography | Minneapolis St. Paul, Minnesota}

I love seeing this beautiful family on a regular basis.  The first time I photographed them, their daughter was 6 months old.  And now... she's a big sister!  A new baby to love - what could be more exciting and wonderful than that?

I am the first to admit that I am not a typical newborn photographer.  I just don't (ok, can't!) do the posed sleeping shots that so many of my colleagues do so artfully.  But this type of session - an in-home, lifestyle newborn/family experience -  I LOVE.  We had a fantastic time playing dress-up, doing some magic, and taking pictures.  Such a special day.

Ten on Ten - Faceless February

It's the tenth of the month.  So I am posting ten personal images, along with several other photographer colleagues who are also participating in this "Ten on Ten" project.  Check out the bottom of my post for a link to one of these amazing people, and follow the links all the way around the circle.

Lately I've been inspired by the idea of the "faceless portrait:" telling a person's story without relying on facial expressions.  I'd been planning to do this for awhile, and then I learned that National Geographic recently did a "your shot" assignment with exactly the same theme!  I loved looking at the entries.

Welcome to Faceless February!

(OK, well, this first one is from December, not February... but it was taken with this project in mind, and it's what gave me the idea in the first place!)

Now click on over to the amazing Shannon Stroubakis, Photographer in the Woodlands, TX and see what ten images she has for today!

Shelter {Headshot Portrait Photography | Twin Cities, Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN}

If you've been to, say, the Icehouse in Minneapolis, then you are familiar with the incredible work of these people right here.  I was so thrilled and excited to be asked to do a new set of headshots for Shelter, an amazing architecture and design firm, in their new offices in Northeast Minneapolis.  They are celebrating their company's tenth anniversary, and I predict many, many more anniversaries to come!  What a creative, talented, fun, stylish, and good-looking crew they are!  I had the best time doing these portraits for them.  I love that they wanted to use their work environment and also to have something a little more interesting and modern than your typical corporate headshots.
