Love. Hope. Celebration. {Twin Cities, MN | Family Portrait Photographer}

A little over a year ago, I took this picture.

The boy in this photo, who was nine when this was taken, is afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  I photographed him and his whole family that day.  This particular photo was meaningful for all of us - those shafts of light reminded his mother of God's protection.  I am honored and humbled to know that this gave people hope and comfort, and really grateful to know such a family.  I don't think I've ever taken a photo that is as special and meaningful as this one.

Well, more than one year later, this young guy is now eleven years old.  And, I'm thrilled to report, he is responding really well to treatment and still is able to spend much of his day on his own two feet.  He does use a wheelchair at times but he is not yet confined to it, and he is still able to do some of the things that every other eleven-year-old boy does.  This is a good thing for a boy afflicted with DMD, which is a very rapidly progressing form of Muscular Dystrophy.  These happy moments are important memories for them.

So, for this year's photo shoot, we really wanted to celebrate the miracle and the joy and all the good things going on.  Such a loving, positive family.  I had so much fun with them.

Here is one of my favorite families, celebrating their blessings.  And now they've given ME a blessing, too - the chance to spend time with them.  We laughed a LOT during their photo shoot.

Fall Family Loveliness

A snuggly, lovely, cool and colorful day at the apple orchard.  A sweet family with an adorable baby.

It almost can't get better than this, can it?
Except things DID get even better.

When you are taking pictures of a family and the baby seems to be (naturally and understandably) all done with you and your silly camera, try having someone walk up behind you with a pony on a leash.  Because that's exactly what happened here, and boy was that a jump start to the smiles.  I couldn't have planned it better!  (I am considering making this a regular feature of my sessions.  I just need a pony and an assistant.  If you have a pony I can borrow, please let me know.)

Simple Things.

Every month I update my blog series remembering the simpler moments in our life.  I hope you enjoy this latest story of "The Simple Things."  At the bottom of the post is a link to another photographer's story.

THE SIMPLE THINGS: THE LITTLE MAESTRO.

"You are the music, while the music lasts."  -T.S. Eliot

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!  Please welcome to the stage... the Maestro!  Enjoy his Fantasy Impromptu in the Key of J-Sharp, composed entirely on the spot.  The Maestro is a master of improvisation.
In his pre-concert talk, the Maestro explained to audience members that tonight's selection would be in a key and hand-position never before used.  The Maestro is an innovator.  (The Maestro's Mama has taught him to play his pieces in C position, but the Maestro is an ARTIST, not bound by the limitations of C position.)
Such flair!  Such passion!  Such vocal pyrotechnics!
Ritardando, decrescendo, and.... fine.

The Maestro bows deeply.   There is no time for an encore this evening.  It is the Maestro's bedtime.

Good night, and remember stop by the box office on your way out to secure your tickets for tomorrow's performance.
